Add your resume
Drop in a PDF or paste the text. No account needed.
- 02
Run the quick check
Exact checks and an AI read of your experience lines return a score in a few seconds, with its ceiling shown beside it.
- 03
Read what it found
Each finding names the problem in plain language, shows the lines it is about and what it costs.
- 04
Go deeper in the editor
Open your resume in the editor for the full review: a recruiter's read, spelling and grammar, and one-click rewrites.
Getting a useful result
- Upload the PDF you actually send to employers: page count and link formatting only exist in the file.
- Fix the foundations first: a missing email or a broken link costs more than any wording issue.
- Aim for a result in one or two lines per role. The check wants evidence, not a number on every line.
- Treat the score as a self-check before you apply, not a verdict. The lines it shows you matter more than the number.
What an ATS resume check actually is
An ATS resume check looks for the faults that cost you before a human reads the page: contact details a parser cannot find, links with typos in them, template markers you forgot to fill, lines that list duties instead of work, walls of text where short lines belong. A good result is not a perfect score. It is a resume with no broken basics and specific evidence behind most of its lines, so what a recruiter reads is your work rather than your formatting.
How the quick check works
The check runs in two layers, and the page tells you which one produced your result.
Exact checks — code, no guessing
Contacts (email, phone, links that look broken), unfilled [X] placeholders, dates (order, future dates, incomplete ranges, overlapping jobs, gaps), duplicate lines, very long lines, mixed punctuation and capitalisation, the same opening word on line after line, and skills your experience never mentions. These count and compare, so they mean the same thing in every language. Line length is measured in characters, not words, so it works for German compounds and for Chinese, Japanese and Korean text too.
The AI read — judgement, with a confidence
An AI answers a fixed set of questions about your resume: which experience lines are vague, whether any line shows a result, whether lines slip into "I", whether the summary could describe anyone, whether buzzwords stand in for evidence, whether a listed skill shows up in your work under another name, whether a gap is explained anywhere on the page. It also reads your context — your field, your career stage and whether this is a US-style resume, a European CV or an academic CV — so the check only asks for what your situation expects. A designer is asked for a portfolio link; a European CV is not marked down for a graduation year or a second page; a student is not marked down for thin experience.
A short spelling and grammar pass reads your summary and experience lines too. Every snippet it reports is checked word for word against your text before it counts, so a made-up error can never reach your score; the page shows how many it found and the first two.
Every AI answer comes with a confidence. Code decides what counts, and an answer the AI is unsure about is never held against you. The score is calculated by code from fixed weights, not written by the AI. A second, short AI step then writes the sentences you read: a two-line summary and one reason per finding, built only on what was already decided.
If the AI read is unavailable — a busy moment, a very long document, or more checks than our hourly fair-use limit allows — you still get the exact checks, clearly labelled.
What the score means, and why it stops short of 100
The score uses the same scale as the full review in our editor, so the two numbers tell the same story. The quick check scores what it actually runs, spelling and grammar included. It does not give a recruiter's read of your whole story, so the points that carries are held back rather than handed to you. When only the exact checks ran, the AI read's points are held back too. The page always shows the ceiling right next to your score, so you know which one you are looking at.
Read the lines, not the number
No score is standardized across tools, and a high one guarantees nothing. What is useful is the list of findings, because each one points at specific lines on your page. Fix those, and the number follows.
Your privacy
We don't save your resume or your result. To run the AI part of the check, the text is sent to our AI providers under zero-data-retention terms: they process it to answer and don't keep it. We log only the outcome — which rules fired — never your text. If you upload a PDF, it is read once to extract the text and is not saved.
What the full review adds
The quick check reads each line once. The full review in the editor goes further:
- A recruiter's read of your whole story: gaps, seniority, how it comes across.
- Every spelling and grammar issue, with one-click fixes.
- Rewrites for weak lines, applied in one click.
- A match score against the job you want.
Your resume comes with you when you open it in the editor, and your first full review is free with an account. A generous free tier covers everyday use; Pro is for having every fix done for you.
Where to go next
- ATS Keyword Scanner — this page asks "is this resume strong?"; the keyword scanner asks "does this posting's vocabulary appear?" You want both before you apply.
- Roast My Resume — the same weaknesses, delivered with considerably less tact.
- Job Matcher — compare the resume you just checked against a real posting.
- AI Resume Score — the full explainer for the review in the editor.

The quick check scores what it actually runs: the exact checks, an AI read of your experience lines and summary, and a spelling and grammar pass over those lines. It doesn't give a recruiter's read of your whole story, so the points that carries are held back rather than handed to you. The full review in the editor scores it. If the AI read is unavailable, you get the instant checks alone, and the points for the AI read are held back too. The page always shows the ceiling next to your score.
Exact checks: email, phone, broken links, unfilled [X] placeholders, date order, future and incomplete dates, overlapping jobs, unexplained gaps, duplicate lines, very long lines, mixed punctuation and capitalisation, and the same opening word repeated. The AI read: vague lines, whether any line shows a result, first-person writing, a generic summary, buzzwords, skills your work never shows, a keyword-stuffed skills list, spelling and grammar, and whether your resume shows what your field and career stage usually expect, such as a portfolio link for designers.
The AI answers fixed questions about your resume with a confidence for each answer, and code decides what counts. An answer it is unsure about is never held against you, and the number is calculated by code, not written by the AI. It can still misread a line, which is why every AI finding is labelled and shows the lines it is about.
No checker replicates a specific ATS: each one parses differently, and no vendor publishes its scoring. What this does is catch the mistakes that cost you before a human reads the page, from missing contacts to vague lines. That is the part you control.
