AI ResumeGuru vs Resume Genius — An Honest Comparison (2026)
Tired of building your resume only to hit a paywall at download? Here's how AI ResumeGuru and Resume Genius compare on pricing, features, and what's actually free.
This is our honest take — we built AI ResumeGuru, so naturally we know it best. We've tried to be fair to Resume Genius's strengths too. Try both and decide for yourself.
Why People Switch from Resume Genius
- You finished your resume but can't download it as PDF or Word — that requires a paid subscription
- The $2.95 trial rolls into recurring billing — either $23.95 every 4 weeks or $95.40/year — and it's not always clear which one applies to you
- The homepage promotes a free builder, but free-tier downloads are TXT-only
- AI content leans on a large pre-written bullet-point library rather than generating from your specific experience
- Refunds are discretionary ('may' provide a full refund per their Terms), and some users report chasing partial refunds for weeks

Which Resume Builder Should You Pick?
Resume Genius is established, fast to use, and has a genuinely large content library. AI ResumeGuru gives you free PDF downloads, AI tailoring with review before anything is applied, AI mock interviews, and a resume-to-portfolio site.
Consider AI ResumeGuru if:
You want free PDF downloads without a card, AI that writes from your real experience with anti-hallucination safeguards, AI mock interviews, or a portfolio website bundled in.
Consider Resume Genius if:
You prefer a fill-in-the-blanks wizard with a huge pre-written bullet library, want access to 1,000+ resume examples, or value an established platform with a long track record and strong Trustpilot rating.
We're a newer, smaller product — Resume Genius has been around since 2009 with a much larger template library, no mobile app on our side, and no human-writer service. But our pricing has no auto-renewing trial, and our free tier includes real PDF downloads. Try both and compare.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Resume Genius free?
Partly. Resume Genius lets you build a resume for free, but downloading as PDF or Word requires a paid plan — only TXT export is free. The $2.95/14-day trial converts to recurring billing (either $23.95 every 4 weeks or $95.40/year, depending on the plan). AI ResumeGuru's free account includes real PDF downloads with no credit card, and guest mode needs no signup at all.
Should I pay for Resume Genius, or switch to AI ResumeGuru?
If you mainly want a fast fill-in-the-blanks builder with a huge bullet-point and examples library, Resume Genius's paid plan ($95.40/yr or $23.95/4 weeks) can be worth it. If you want free PDF downloads, AI tailoring against a job post with review before anything is applied, AI mock interviews, and a portfolio site, AI ResumeGuru's free tier covers that — with Pro at $14.99/mo, $34.99 for 3 months, or $89.99/year (cancel anytime) for more.
Can I move my resume from Resume Genius?
Yes. Export your resume as a PDF from Resume Genius (that requires an active subscription), then import it into AI ResumeGuru. The AI parses your contact info, experience, education, and skills automatically. If you only have the free TXT export, you can copy its contents into the editor by hand.
Can I turn my resume into a portfolio website?
Yes — AI ResumeGuru converts your resume into a live portfolio website with 14 templates, one-click publish, free with an account (custom domain is a Pro feature). Resume Genius does not offer portfolio websites.
Why should I trust a newer product over Resume Genius?
Resume Genius has been around since 2009 with a 4.6/5 Trustpilot score across roughly 44,700 reviews — that track record is real, and their template and examples library is larger than ours. We're newer and smaller, with fewer templates and no mobile app. What we offer instead: no auto-renewing trial, real free PDF downloads, and AI tailoring and interview features built around your actual resume. Try both — AI ResumeGuru is free to start.
