Graphic designer & illustrator
Independent designer working mostly with cultural institutions, small publishers and the occasional patient startup. I like identity systems that survive contact with people who are not designers, and I draw more than the job strictly requires.
A full rebrand for a coastal arts festival — wordmark, a modular poster grid, and a colour system that shifts each edition without losing recognition. Now in its fourth year.
Logotype, shelf wayfinding and a hand-lettered window series for an independent bookshop.
224 pages, 60 hand-drawn maps. Two years of evenings. Shortlisted for the Plantin-Moretus Prize.
Labels for a range of botanical syrups — twelve SKUs sharing one illustration language.
Wall typography and printed guide for a touring exhibition on psychiatric history.
Art direction for a quarterly essay magazine, issues 7 through 18. Redesigned the grid at issue 12.
A condensed grotesque for signage, three weights so far. Slow project, no deadline, much happier for it.
One screen-printed poster a month, no brief, no client. Eighty-one so far.
Editorial and campaign work. Learned to defend a layout without becoming precious about it.

Eline gave us a system rather than a logo, which meant our volunteers could make posters for four years without asking her anything. That was the actual deliverable.
She redrew sixty maps because the first set were merely fine. I did not ask her to and I did not pay her extra.
Second-year identity studio, one day a week.
